———Profile of Dongtai City Experimental Primary School
Our school is an old school with a history of hundreds of years, initiated in the year of 1911. In 2010, it was reformed as “Dongtai City Experimental Primary School Education Group” Here are two campuses of Honglan and Qiping with total area of 100 mu, more than 6180 students and 380 teachers , among whom are 4 special-grade teachers of Jiangsu Province, 108 academic leaders and teaching experts of Yancheng municipality and Dongtai City.
I. Main achievements
Our school sticks to the education philosophy of “let every teacher and every student make efforts, and let every life become wonderful”. We take “Being healthy and upward, enjoy the growth” as the value declaration. We actively integrate the advantages of running schools in collectivized mode, vigorously promote the balanced development of education, and “take quality as the fundamental, take the road of connotation development; take teachers’ moral codes as the soul, to build a characteristic branded school”. The group-run school implements “Five Unifications” (unified teacher allocation, unified lesson preparation, unified teaching progress, unified quality control and unified performance assessment). The school management promotes “Five Projects”: “Management in the Sunshine” project for balanced educations to provides equal opportunities to every teacher and every student; “Three-year Planning” project for leading professional growths, to make every teacher experience the happiness of educations; “Let Learning Lead to Thoughts” project for education reform to make every child the master of learning; “Five Loves, Seven Capabilities” project for core competences cultivation to make every child the best of himself/herself; “Assessment and Incentive” project for multiple evaluations to make teachers and students enjoy the happiness of growing together. The school has successively won “Characteristics School in China” “National Charm Campus”, “Provincial Advanced Organization of Spiritual Civilization”, “Provincial Civilized School”, “Provincial Quality Education Demonstration School”, “Provincial Science Education Characteristic School”, “Provincial Art Education Characteristic School”, “Provincial Civilization Organization”, “Provincial Mental Health Education Characteristic Elementary and Secondary School”, “Provincial the Young Pioneers of the Cultural Construction Characteristics Project”, “Provincial Advanced Collectives of Educational Work” and other series of honors. Cao Weixing, Hu Jinbo and other previous provincial level leaders visited our school successively and gave full affirmation to our school. CCTV, Jiangsu TV Station, “Jiangsu Education”, “School Management”, “Jiangsu Education Newspaper” and other a variety of medias promoted and reported the school running experience and fruitful results of our school.
Our school meets the modern needs of running a school. We constantly improve and enhance the constructions of our campus infrastructures and supporting facilities. Our school has a full range of facilities including libraries, reading rooms, conference rooms, lecture halls, music rooms, dancing rooms, art rooms, laboratories, science and technology rooms, computer rooms and recording rooms. We have subscribed more than 150 magazines and newspapers, a total number of 180 thousand books and 200 thousand electronic books. Mobile books are at your fingertips for choice at the newly built modern “Reading Gallery” and the childlike “Little Book Worm Book Bar”.
Ⅱ.Main School Characteristics
1.“The Culture of Making Efforts” carries the wonderful lives of the teachers and the students
Our school takes “making efforts” as the school motto which is the base point of the growth of the teachers and the students. “Use the culture of making efforts to carry the wonderful lives of the teachers and the students”. Use “give methodical and patient guidance” and “review what has been learnt and learn something new” as the teaching spirit and the learning spirit. We have built a wall of effort, an outline of the effort culture, and a bridge of effort and other cultural identities, to establish the goal of “making an effort” for the school, classes, teachers, students and parents. The campus environment and the spirits of the teachers and the students have taken on new looks. The teachers team is full of youthful spirit, and the professional development situation is gratifying. They have participated in different levels and kinds of matches and have achieved a number of good results. There are fruitful results in the fields of teaching and scientific research. Currently, we have forty provincial and municipal projects.
2. “Let Learning Leads to Thoughts” to build children’s classroom teaching
During the Twelfth Five-Year Plan, the headmaster Jin Lihui put forward the teaching idea of “Let Learning Leads to Thoughts” based on children’s positions. He led everyone to explore the construction of the classroom teaching model of “Five Lets Three Leads” based on children’s positions. The teaching quality has been significantly improved. The “Research of Teaching Practices of “Let Learning Leads to Thoughts” based on children’s positions” declared by our school has been identified as the 11th project topic of the provincial teaching and research, and the key project to be promoted in the Thirteenth Five-Year Plan by Yancheng City Bureau of Education.
3. “Five Loves, Seven Capabilities” cultivates children’s core competences.
Our school actively develops and implements series of school courses which meet the interests of children, promote the development of children, enhance the quality of teachers and are filled with the connotation of the school. Take “Five Loves, Seven Capabilities” as the train objective of the students’ core competences cultivation, and vigorously promote the construction of school based curriculum programs. “Five Loves” is the goal of moral education, which is “love the nature, love the motherland, love teachers, love parents and love lives.”; “Seven Capabilities” is the goal of knowledge skills, which is “being capable of writing nicely, having a good habit of reading, having an art hobby, having two kinds of fitness skills, can do housework actively, can volunteer for community services, and can get along well with people”. We are trying to build “Eight Etiquettes, Four Deportments”, “Young Eagles Bring Help and Warmness to the Old”, “I Hand in Hand with Children from Mountain Areas” and other practical branded projects promote core values of the moral education. These have been rated as “Greatest Ten Civilizations of the Province”, “Top Ten Moral Brands of Schools” and “Top Ten New Things of Civilization of Yancheng City”, and have open the event site for the young pioneers’ counselors.
“Happy Friday” Course Supermarket has become the big stage showing personalities of our students. Two classes every Friday afternoon have been set as the fixed time for students’ comprehensive practical activities, community activities and other school based curriculum programs, to meet the diverse needs of the development of students’personalities, and improve students’comprehensive qualities all rounded. Over the years, the table tennis team, chess team, Chinese chess team, volleyball team and other sports teams have won the provincial and municipal competitions for individual championships and the first group total score for multiple times. The “Little Red Flower” art troupe enjoyed a widespread reputation. In the opening ceremony of “The Melon is Ripe Tourist Season” and cultural tourism week of “Tour of Dongtai”, and other activities in Dongtai City, our Painting and Calligraphy Association and Children Erhu Association appeared frequently; the large Chinese Erhu unison performances of “The Sun is Shining Brightly” and “Water March Day” have been on the provincial and national stages, and won the fourth children’s Art Festival of Jiangsu Province and “Stars Award”, the highest award of “Five Stars Project Award” issued by the Ministry of Culture consecutively. The program of “Aroma of Plum Blossom” has joined the national children’s musical performances and popularization week activities, and has been performed in Beijing as the only program from Jiangsu. In the year of 2015, our students participated in the“Dongtai Watermelon Big Challenges” and “Beautiful Countryside Big Challenges” which were shot by CCTV and broadcasted in “Open Sesame” program of CCTV children channel. We have shown the comprehensive development and the elegant styles of the specialty development of our students, and also promoted the imaged of Dongtai successfully.
